The Elusive Age

So how old do you think kids find grown people to be?
This happened almost two years ago and I still find it very amusing.

I was visiting a relative's place in Saudi Arabia. My two cousins (bro's) were aged somewhere between 5 and 12, of course one was elder than the other by about three years (not that I'm trying to riddle you to find out their actual ages, I don't remember them myself) ; and we were three sisters aged, well, with five and twelve years of age gap between us. You get the picture.

We stayed in their welcome for about a week, touring, shopping, picnicking and relaxing.  Being the eldest among the kids ( I was nineteen back then) I did not have much choice but to tag along with the younger lot and play their funny little games. Once the youngest cousin chased me around the house with an air-freshener aerosol threatening to spray it on me; the house was impeccably well fragranced by the end of our chase. There are also times where I simply sit back and watch the rest of them chat and play. Due to that lack of such an intellect or a childish perception I failed to qualify as an equal member of the group and couldn't contribute to the intellectual discussion that took place.

It was during one of these sessions that an intriguing question arose, How old are you?
Everyone shared their truthful age one by one... then came my turn. My two sisters and the two cousins looked up at me with high inquisitiveness. This somehow made me feel like I was giving a project presentation and one of the professors had asked a very silly question. Nonetheless I told them that I was 19.

My sisters nodded in acknowledgement whereas my cousins, they took it a bit harshly. The elder one was wide eyed and looked very surprised. The younger, he was the most affected. He gave a  big gasp, clutched his heart and fell on the bed.

I, on the other had, was having a ball and giggling in delight.  Moments later everyone recovered from their shock and went back to their serious discussion about video games.

I sincerely have no idea as to how old they thought I was, still don't. Even today when I think back of this event, I'm  left thoughtless of what to think of their reaction. Although, I never fail to chuckle.
