Gender Stereotype

If you are a woman,
Have you ever wanted something that is considered ‘manly’ ? Like a basketball, a cell phone, a dog, a camera or a new laptop? A new car or motor bike? Ever wanted to be a pilot? A doctor or not a nurse? And the manliest want of them all – The remote! ;)
As a kid did you enjoy playing with a bat and a ball?
There was a time when books were considered ‘manly’, women authors had to pretend to be men – would you say books are still rather manly – women should want to embroider and crochet?
If you are a man,
Have you ever wanted something that only women are supposed to want – like bags, shoes, clothes, creams, perfumes, babies, flowers? A peaceful home and a happy family? Have you ever been afraid of the dark or of insects?
As a kid did you ever want to play ‘teacher-teacher’, cooking or did you like playing with a doll? Have you ever enjoyed cooking? Bought something in pink? Loved chocolates?

So here’s the tag – Please list at least ten things you have ever wanted or done which your gender is not supposed to.
The tag is called ‘My Sins against Gender-Stereotypes’. And you must tag twelve blogging friends  or else you will be cursed to wear blue clothes pants if you are a woman and pink shirts if you are a man – for next twelve years

Although I have a completely girly dressing style and looks, I don't always act so. Here are my gender traits:

  1. My favorite color is blue and I am not a fan of Pink!
  2. My table is mostly filled with wires, flash drives, CD’s and papers
  3. I envy guys fashion; they get to wear all the comfortable ones. The girls’ fashions are either tight, minimal or partially see through. Also some of them limit you from taking long strides.
  4. I cannot balance myself on stilettos; I am comfortable with platforms but no other type of high heels.
  5. I adore flats (shoes). Alas, it doesn’t go with the Indian street conditions. Platforms are more hygienic.
  6. I usually wear no make up (kajal is an exception)and I did not know how to use an eye liner until last year, hehe.
  7. I love food. I eat heartily and with passion and I have never been on a diet. I despise oil, but I like ghee and butter. (and don’t let your thoughts wonder, I don’t look like an elephant!)
  8. I am crazy about electronics. cell phones,  mp3 players and laptops, I love them all!
  9. I like cars too, don’t have a wide knowledge about them but I do have an avid interest, and I cannot take my eyes off one if I see a kewl one on the road.
  10. I can assemble a CPU. My dad taught me to assemble one when I was 16.
  11. I am a hockey player, don’t know if that is girly or not but I am sure its dangerous enough not to be :P
  12. I have played cricket a couple of times and the best I do in it is Bowling. Some think girls are not fit enough to bowl. Bah!
  13. I have always wanted to cycle, but never managed to learn how to. I have tried but somehow didn’t try enough to get the hang of it
  14. I prefer to watch action, mystery/crime, comedy and  sci-fi movies. I detest drama and romance!
  15. I don’t gossip, I completely abhor it and also try my best not to listen to one either.
  16.  From schooldays itself I have had the habit of competing with boys, the habit had died of for a while when I was in high school but resurfaced when I joined college. For some unknown reason I haven’t found girls worth competing with. Lol
  17. I always carry a flash drive with me.
  18. My first choice of college study was architecture, then changed to electronics and communications engineering and due to the unforeseen turn of events I have landed myself in the IT field.
  19. I understand computer codes better than paragraphs and paragraphs of textbook nonsense.
  20. Had no idea reading books was a guyish thing. I love to read and I read the same genre as the movies I see. (see point no. 14)
  21. The only jewelry I usually wear is earrings. Even guys wear them nowadays.
  22. I love pranks and practical jokes. A friend and I changed the clock in the classroom so that the professor would leave us early.(muahahaha). And it worked!
  23. I don’t know/talk celebrity stuff. I think even they should have some privacy.
  24. I can keep secrets. I am so good I won’t even behave like you’d told me one :P
  25. I forget things easily. If you’d tell me to wash the dishes after 15 minutes, it will never get done, I might only remember it the next day. All the more, I remember people, names and faces :)
